About the McLellan Family:

The McLellan FamilyHere is our team, dedicated to God and serving the Lord and you out of our individual gifts.

Bob married Maxine in August 1971, is the head of our family, and has been Pastor Bob since 1974 in three different congregations in the Church of the Nazarene, which is an evangelical denomination. In addition to his heavy pastoral workload in the local church, you will find Bob leading regularly scheduled services in the two local seniors nursing homes. He serves on the Shelburne ministerial board, is involved in community events and delivers Meals on Wheels. Bob manages to also work in our family business, JOY Center of Learning. JOY serves the home schooling market with curriculum and other teaching resources, sells spiritual development resources to the general Christian community, and also sells home and health products to anyone who is interested. He gives seminars from time to time at home schooling events. Bob is our business and church Post Office runner, bank depositor, bill payer, and general "go-fer" person. He has taken up designing a variety of marketing websites, working on our church site and media blog site, and helping Andrea with our JOY site. Without Bob's major contributions towards the domestic tasks around the house and shopping and meal preparation, we might well starve to death!!!

Maxine, in addition to being a "pastor's wife" and all that entails, started JOY Center of Learning in 1993 and as these things go, got the whole family involved in her passion. More often than not, it is Maxine on the other end of the telephone whether it be for church related calls, or for business calls taking product orders, answering questions, and generally offering information and encouragement, and then on to packing up orders for shipment. She has been a speaker to church and community groups and for many home school events and conferences in seven provinces and in Missouri and California. In 2008 she started on the journey of learning to do blogging and basic website work. Her fun blog since January 2009 is DogAndCatViews.com, written from the perspective of our six cats and two dogs!

Both Bob and Maxine are writers and enjoy communicating with others through the written word in newspaper articles, magazine articles, and Maxine has authored two books. You can listen to Bob's sermons and read some of his articles at OurChurchMedia.com.

We home educated our two children starting in 1985 when Andrea was in grade four and Andrew in grade one. They completed highschool at home. We also home educated two girls from the community for six years. In total we were "in the home education trenches" for twenty years!

Andrea does just about everything but avoids talking on the phone whenever possible! She is our webmaster/designer, computer expert, and bookkeeper. Andrea orders from our business suppliers and tracks inventory, prepares shipping manifests, and keeps our computers running and us on track. She lives at home and is extremely active in the Shelburne Grace Church as our pianist, audiovisual expert, and sound technician. Andrea picks up Maxine's responsibilities whenever she is away - which is frequently. And yes, Andrea will answer the phone when necessary! Andrea is also the primary keeper of our livestock family and that is a BIG commitment which has an interesting story behind it, especially considering she is not a cat person, far preferring dogs. Just don't tell that to Buzz, the cat who can hardly bare to be apart from her.

Andrew no longer lives with us and is employed part time by a satellite installation company here in Shelburne that services a large territory in Ontario. Andrew lives in Toronto and works works in the office of a major car trucking company. During the years he was 12-16 he was our chief cook and kept us all well fed while we were getting JOY Center of Learning up and running! So, although he is no longer involved, his contributions to our family in the past as a fellow team member will always be remembered and appreciated.

The rest of our team should also be mentioned - the four footed members! When you call, you are apt to hear one of our two dogs chiming in. Since the church is meeting in rented facilities, the office is in our home. We have a very vocal female border collie/golden retriever cross named Sandi, and a little white male Lhassa-poo named Coby. Coby is "mom" to four cats who came to live with us as kittens. Their owner was very ill with cancer and the kittens were sickly. Coby, barely a year old himself at the time, mothered them - carrying them around like little puppies. Two of the cats now think they ARE dogs!! By the time we got them healthy, two of us just couldn't let them go!! That was in the spring of 2006 when Chester, Smokey, Pebbles and Buzz joined us. In May of 2008 our friend finally passed away, leaving us with nine more cats to find homes for. (At one point there were 23!!). We found homes for all but two older females and after all was said and done, guess what, Gracie and Princess now live with us.

So there you have it. We are here to serve you. Oh, by the way - Bob wants to make it REALLY CLEAR (his emphasis) to you that we are not prepared to serve you by taking in any more animals of any variety, nor to find homes for any!!! You might guess from that comment that he was not one of the two who welcomed the six cats!
